I always get my Christmas trees from Wilbur’s since discovering them four years ago.
This year one of my birthday gifts was a trip to New Zealand, by far my favorite country to visit. We had a great lunch at Murdoch James in Martinborough with local fare and their excellent white wines .
Our visit to Mt Bruce Wildlife Center was too much fun! The Kaka birds entertained us and the walk in the forest was good for my soul.
Since moving to the East Coast one of my favorite educational experiences is going to Washington DC’s museums. We go to the Smithsonian often and love the cherry blossoms in the spring.
Last year was the year Tucker lost his “boy parts” for his second birthday present. We traveled to Delaware where his dog trainer said her favorite vet Dr Besty worked. While Tucker was getting snipped I had five hours to explore the area and while it was very flat and boring to a Colorado mountain man there was some history hiding about. I stumbled upon this revolutionary war site the proved very interesting. I also enjoyed seeing flocks of wild geese and cranes serenading me from way up high as the flew northward to the summer breeding grounds reminding me of Colorado.
Afterwards tucker was picked up and delivered home pondering what had just happened and what did it mean.
Some of the best trips over the last couple of years have been to my real home, Colorado. Hiking in the forest high above Aspen was divine. The hike took us to Crater Lake for the first time. We usually hike the East Portal Trail but curiosity drew us to the more crowded lake trail. It was worth the forty five minute hike at high altitude.
I was blessed with another trip to Japan last fall. The colors were hypnotic, especially when situated in ancient temple grounds. These trees in Kyoto were some of the prettiest.
At the Osaka Castle we saw this army of miniature soldiers marching off to war, or at least a tour and lunch. They were adorable in their green hats. We saw several other groups of kids getting a history lesson at the castle that day.
Now that I’m engaged in full-time travel writing I reflect often on the gifts of travel. One of the best gifts is loving to travel but also loving to come home. With a little luck we may even have a white Christmas. Regardless of snow or no snow I wish you all a very merry Christmas, Kawanza, or happy holiday season with friends and family and thanks for reading my scribbles.
