I love going to see Longwood Gardens tulips in Kennett Square every April. The gardeners plant over 200,000 bulbs and when they are close to peak bloom, it’s a staggering pallet of color. The trick is catching it during the peak.

This year my wife and I were too early the first time we went for a look but were able to come back the following weekend. This time we caught the tulips just a couple of days before the peak. Close enough for us.

The sun was shining and the temperature was a pleasant 75 degrees. Perfect weather for viewing Longwood Gardens tulips.
Take a closer look
Each year we see new varieties and the colors or shapes can be surprising. I really liked the frilly yellow tulips.

The main flower walk was almost in full bloom but the test gardens on the other side of the complex were at abut 75%. It was still worth the walk over to see what was new.

On our way back to the gate we stopped to take a look and see how the 90 million dollar main fountain restoration was going. One of the volunteers told us, “You might hear a loud pop as the fountains come to life for a test run. They have been testing the fountains all week and it’s loud!”

Before leaving we decided to take a look in the conservatory. Most of the doors and windows were open letting the fresh air. The inside looked great as always.

Any time of year is a good time to visit Longwood Gardens. Check out their website for concerts, what’s in bloom, and more at www.Longwoodgardens.org. While in the area be sure to grab a meal at one of my favorite Kennett Square restaurants.
