Images Of Baltimore: My View of the Charm City

Although not from the area, in the nine years I have lived in Baltimore I’ve succumbed to its charm. The city is full of historic moments and architecture that grabs my attention each time I venture downtown. From the nation’s first substantial railroad- the B&O, to advances in canning and preserving techniques, Baltimore has been a leader in our nation’s progress.

I feel since I’m not from around here my opinion means a bit more than a local. I didn’t expect to like Baltimore so much but with so much to see and do the city has left me with mostly gushing enthusiasm. Although I’ve covered Baltimore before in my blog, there’s room for an update of places and events. Follow along with me on a trail of my images of Baltimore taken over the last year for just a taste of the Charm City.

A Fishy Baltimore Attraction

Over 1.5 million visit the National Aquarium most every year. Definitely one of the city’s best attractions.

Inner Harbor

The Inner Harbor is safe and loads of fun in downtown Baltimore. Dozens of restaurants, attractions, and buskers await on good weather days.

Sagamore Spirits distillery

Kevin Plank of Under Armour fame is a one-man redevelopment council. His latest projects include the distillery and on the other side of the harbor, The Sagamore Pendry Hotel. Kevin is providing jobs and pride for the citizens of Baltimore and has more big plans in the works.

Back in the days when the B&O Railroad’s offices occupied what is now the Hotel Monaco, this old shipping company building was a hopping place.

Elegant town homes of days gone by

Some of my favorite images of Baltimore are the old row homes. Back in the 18th century, they built old townhomes to last. Many of these row homes are still in use today. I can’t imagine living in these brick buildings in the era before air conditioning!

Bank of America bldg

Back in the 1920s the Bank of America Building was the tallest hi-rise in the city. This Romanesque design still looks stately today.

Peters Inn

Baltimore has a vibrant restaurant scene. From big to small, Baltimore has you covered for dining out. Peter’s Inn in Fells Point is an example of a tiny restaurant with a loyal following.

Hon Fest

Baltimore has a mind-boggling amount of festivals each year. One of the most fun is the Hon Fest in the Hampden neighborhood. Come and learn how the hon’s speak the English language a bit different than you. Come in a beehive hairdo to fit in with the locals just for fun.

Christmas Village Baltimore

There are plenty of seasonal events like the Christmas Village. Going on its fifth year the Christmas Village brings food and crafts to the Inner Harbor November 23rd until December 24th. Over 40 vendors probably have something for your shopping list.

Farmer’s market

Spring through fall Baltimore has several farmer’s markets bringing country goodness to the city folk. I love shopping for the early season asparagus, ramps, and peas at the Jones Falls Market.

If your travel plans call for a visit to Baltimore be sure and check out the local visitors center webpage. There’s almost always something going on in this city by the Chesapeake Bay. Give Baltimore a few days visit and I think you’re going to like it here. And be sure and get a crab cake while you’re at it.
